Tournament Rules & Regulations
1. Tournament Format
- Structure: The tournament features 8 teams, divided into 2 groups (Group 1 and Group 2) of 4 teams each.
- Group Stage: Each team is guaranteed to play 2 group-stage matches.
- Points System:
- A win awards 3 points.
- If a group-stage match ends in a tie, both teams will receive 1 point.
- Progression: The top 2 teams from each group advance to the semi-finals.
- Semi-final 1: Group 1 Topper vs Group 2 Second Place.
- Semi-final 2: Group 2 Topper vs Group 1 Second Place.
- Final: The winners of SF 1 and SF 2 meet in the Final.
2. Match Format & Timing
- Length: Each match is played as a 6-over-per-side game.
- Powerplay: The first 2 overs are Powerplay overs. During the Powerplay, only 2 fielders are allowed outside the circle. Any violation of this rule will result in a no ball and a free hit.
3. Team Registration
- Squad Size: Each team must register a minimum of 11 and a maximum of 17 players.
- Deadline: Registration must be completed before the tournament date (26 July 2026). No changes to the squad are allowed after your final roster is submitted.
- Representation: A player may represent only one team in the tournament.
- Playing XI: The final Playing XI must be submitted before or at the time of the toss.
4. Toss & Pre-Match Protocol
- Timing: Teams must report to Meadows Ground at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match (First match starts at 9:00 AM sharp). Late arrival may result in a walkover, at the committee's discretion.
- Toss Decision: At the time of the toss, the winning team must inform the umpires/coordinators of their decision to bat or bowl immediately.
5. Bowling & Delivery Rules
- Bowler Limits: A minimum of 5 bowlers must be used in an innings. For a 6-over match, a maximum of 1 bowler may bowl 2 overs, while the rest must bowl 1 over each.
- Short Balls: Only one short-pitched ball (above shoulder, below head) is allowed per over.
- A second short-pitched delivery in an over will be called a wide ball if the batsman is beaten (attempts a shot and misses).
- If the batsman hits the second short-pitched delivery, it will be called a no ball.
- No Balls:
- Any delivery passing above the batsman's head in a normal stance is a no ball.
- A delivery passing above waist height without pitching (while the batsman is upright at the popping crease) is an illegal delivery and a no ball.
- A bowler touching the stumps during delivery will be penalized with a no ball.
- All no balls are followed by a free hit.
- Wides: A ball pitching outside the pitch will be called a wide, not a no ball. If the batsman moves across the crease, the umpire will judge the wide based on the batter’s new position, in line with standard cricket laws.
- Illegal Actions: Illegal bowling actions (e.g., chucking) are not allowed and may be penalized at the umpire’s discretion.
- Wicketkeepers: Wicketkeepers are allowed to bowl, but they must notify the umpire before doing so. They must also notify umpires when changing their position close to or away from the stumps.
6. General Batting & Scoring Rules
- LBW: Leg Before Wicket (LBW) is not applicable in this tournament.
- Extras: Byes and leg byes are allowed. Runs scored from overthrows are allowed and will be added to the total.
- Dead Ball: If the ball breaks during a delivery, it is ruled a dead ball, even if a wicket falls. (Standard red tennis balls will be provided by MICC).
7. Tiebreaker & Super Over Rules
- Knockout Stages: In the semi-finals and final, if a match ends in a tie, a Super Over will be played to determine the winner.
- Super Over Format:
- Each team can use 3 batsmen; the innings ends after 2 wickets.
- All usual fielding restrictions apply.
- If the Super Over is still tied, additional Super Overs will continue until a winner is found.
8. Substitutions & Injuries
- Fielders: Fielding substitutions are allowed but must be selected from the registered squad. Substitutes cannot bat or bowl.
- Retiring: A batsman retiring due to injury is marked as "retired hurt" and may resume batting after a wicket falls. A batsman retiring for any other reason is marked as "retired out" and cannot return to bat.
9. Pitch Safety & Footwear
- Footwear: Players are not permitted to wear spikes.
- Danger Area: Players must avoid running repeatedly in the danger area to prevent pitch damage. This is defined as a 2-foot-wide central strip, beginning 5 feet from each popping crease.
10. Discipline & Fair Play
- Communication: Only team captains are permitted to communicate with umpires on the field.
- Mankading: Mankading is strictly not allowed.
- Conduct: Abusive or unsportsmanlike conduct, including showing dissent to umpires, may result in disqualification. No alcohol is allowed at the venue.
- Authority: All decisions made by the umpires and the MICC tournament coordinators (Ela, Krishna, Rahul, Raja, Gouti, & Laks) are final.
